Frequently Asked Questions

Who attends Mt Hobson Academy?

We are a co-educational school for boys and girls in Years 1-13 (aged 5-18). Students of all ability levels excel in our school. The current group of students has a wide range of ability levels from students achieving through to students with learning difficulties.

The key is that we are able to help all students through the combination of:

  • Small school size.

  • Small class size.

  • Individualised Base Learning Plans.

  • Split day structure to suit subject timetable

  • The care and professionalism from each staff member.

Students must be prepared to learn in English and this provides a limit to the number of international students who attend.

How structured is the learning environment?

  • Refer to ‘Our School’ tab - MHA Connected.

  • External sports and cultural/service groups are accommodated.

  • Each student has an individualized Timetable that covers face to face classes, Virtual Learning Network classes and offsite Gateway classes

What is the enrolment procedure?

After an application is received, a time is made to meet the student. Parents are able to make an appointment prior to sending in an application if they prefer. The Principal/Academic Manager meets the student and discusses the style of learning with the parents and student. An offer of place letter is then sent out with a form asking for acceptance.

What is the practical outcome of the Christian focus and principles?

On a day-to-day basis, the expectations of how staff work with the students and the level of demonstrated respect that students have for each other, staff and the members of the community they interact with is a key outcome of this area.

The school does not have formal religious education but the Christian ethic and worldview is a foundation to all of our teaching. The children feel comfortable being challenged on their thoughts and challenging others (including staff).

Students come to the school from a diverse range of backgrounds and do not feel uncomfortable within it due to their beliefs.
